What is elder abuse?
- A single or repeated act of inappropriate action towards an elderly person
- An abuse of power which causes harm or distress to an older person
- Occurs within a relationship where there is an expectation of trust but actually causes harm or distress to an older person
- Can be physical, emotional, sexual and financial
- Maybe intended or unintended neglect
