Elder Abuse

What is elder abuse?

  • A single or repeated act of inappropriate action towards an elderly person
  • An abuse of power which causes harm or distress to an older person
  • Occurs within a relationship where there is an expectation of trust but actually causes harm or distress to an older person
  • Can be physical, emotional, sexual and financial
  • Maybe intended or unintended neglect
