Local Report a Guide to Meeting Climate Change-Related Health Challenges

The Middlesex-London Health Unit released a report today that takes a close look at the vulnerability of the local community to the potential health challenges that climate change can present. After climate change was identified as a potentially significant local health hazard, the Health Unit worked with a team of researchers to assess the risk and provide guidance to address emerging health challenges related to climate. Entitled Assessment of Vulnerability to the Health Impacts of Climate Change in Middlesex-London, the new report was prepared for the Health Unit by Dr. Peter Berry and Jaclyn Paterson from Health Canada, and Chris Buse, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto.


London and Middlesex Smash in motion Challenge Goal

The numbers are in! London and Middlesex County residents took up the month-long in motion™ Physical Activity Challenge in October, smashing the total number minutes logged during last year’s inaugural edition of the Challenge. Once the totals were counted from the in motion™ app and the paper trackers, there were more than 4.7 million minutes of physical activity completed by some 11,600 people.


Limited Influenza Activity in the Community Makes it an Ideal Time to Get Vaccinated

Chills, sniffles, sneezes and coughs are regular occurrences in late-November, as influenza takes hold in the community, however these symptoms seem to be noticeably absent so far in the fall of 2014. The limited amount of local influenza activity has prompted the Middlesex-London Health Unit to encourage local residents to get immunized against the flu, if they haven’t done so already.


National Addictions Awareness Week

Did you know? November 17 - 21, 2014 is National Addictions Awareness Week. Led by the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA), this national awareness campaign calls attention to critical issues and solutions associated with alcohol and other drug-related harm to individuals, families and communities across Canada.

Health Unit Announces Tentative Agreement

London, ON – The Middlesex-London Health Unit is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA), which represents more than 150 local Public Health Nurses, avoiding a potential labour disruption.
