School Wide Initiatives

School-wide initiatives are coordinated efforts that implement multiple strategies to promote shared goals, values, and practices. These initiatives are designed to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging school environment for all. The Middlesex-London Health Unit supports several school-wide initiatives that bridge both health and education, encouraging overall well-being and academic success.

 Food Access in Schools

  • School food programs help ensure all students have access to nutritious meals, supporting their health, learning, and well-being—especially for those facing food insecurity.

Active & Safe Routes to School

  • Active & Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) is a partnership across Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford, London, and St. Thomas that promotes active transportation for children and families.

Supportive Food Enviornment

  • Schools can create supportive food environments, where students can develop a positive relationship with food and their bodies, and learn lifelong positive eating habits.

OPHEA Healthy Schools Certification

  • The OPHEA Healthy Schools Certification recognizes and supports schools in promoting and enhancing student well-being through a comprehensive, school-wide approach to health. It empowers school communities to take action in creating healthier learning environments.
