The hot summer-like weather is back to start the shortened week, with potentially record-setting high temperatures in store for today. The current Environment Canada forecast is calling for a high of 32º Celsius, before cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain come tomorrow. Today’s expected daytime high exceeds the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for issuing a Heat Alert, generating a reminder to make plans for outdoor activities, including dressing lightly, taking breaks from working outside and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement Friday afternoon, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will expand COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to youth 12 years of age and older starting Sunday, May 23rd at 8:00 a.m..
Heat Alert Leading Into Victoria Day Long Weekend
Leading into the Victoria Day long weekend, the region is getting a taste of summer, prompting the Middlesex-London Health Unit to issue a Heat Alert for today. The current Environment Canada forecast calls for temperatures to reach 31º Celsius, meeting the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s Heat Alert threshold. Although the Heat Alert is only in effect for one day, the rest of the long weekend is expected to have temperatures just below the Health Unit’s benchmark, prompting a reminder to residents to be sun smart and beat the heat all weekend long.

To increase the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine in Middlesex County, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU), the County of Middlesex and the Municipality of Thames Centre are partnering to offer a mobile community COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the FlightExec Centre in Dorchester, on May 28th and 29th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement this morning, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will expand COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to adults 18 years of age and older (born in 2003 and turning 18 in 2021) on Tuesday, May 18th at 8:00 a.m.
Outbreak Declared, Attendees Advised To Quarantine, After More Than A Dozen COVID Cases Reported…
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is continuing the investigation of a COVID-19 outbreak that was declared following a funeral held in London earlier this month. The Health Unit announced today that 14 cases of COVID-19 have been linked to the event and that investigators have found evidence to suggest transmission likely occurred at private home gatherings, the visitation and the funeral.
Media Advisory: Middlesex-London’s Fourth Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic Prepares to Open
In advance of opening of the fourth COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Middlesex-London, members of the media will be invited for a walk-through tour of the Earl Nichols Recreation Centre on Friday, May 21st. The addition of the Earl Nichols site to the list of COVID-19 vaccination clinics will increase the number of appointments available to London and Middlesex County residents, as the region prepares to invite those over the age of 18 to receive their first dose of vaccine later this week.
Middlesex-London Health Unit Covid-19 Vaccine Eligibility Update
Following the direction of the Provincial Government, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all individuals with at-risk health conditions such as dementia, diabetes and sickle cell disease, as well as essential workers who cannot work from home on Tuesday, May 11th at 8:00 a.m. The Health Unit will then expand eligibility to all those 40 years of age and older on Thursday, May 13th at 8:00 a.m.

Starting Thursday, May 6 at 8AM, adults 50+ and essential workers who cannot work from home (Group 1, Phase 2 of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination plan) can book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment in London and Middlesex County at www.covidvaccinelm.ca.
