No Appointments Needed for First Doses at COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinics Starting Tomorrow

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is stepping up its effort to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated this summer, by reducing potential barriers even further. Starting Wednesday, July 14th, it will no longer be necessary to book appointments to receive a first dose of vaccine at one of the four mass vaccination clinics in London or Middlesex County. The addition of more walk-in options for those who have yet to receive their initial dose of COVID-19 vaccine is intended to make it easier for those individuals to get started on a two-dose summer and be protected against COVID-19.

Health Unit Extends Heat Alert Into Tuesday

Yesterday’s hot temperatures and Environment Canada’s forecast met the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for issuing a two-day Heat Alert for Sunday and Monday. Now, with an updated forecast that calls for temperatures to reach a high of 31º Celsius, a humidex of 39 and a very high UV index, the Health Unit is extending the current heat alert into Tuesday. The Alert will remain in effect until tomorrow night when rain and thunderstorms will cause temperatures to drop below the Health Unit’s threshold.

MLHU Celebrates the Administration of More Than 500,000 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses, as Medical Officer…

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) announced today that over 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the region since the first dose was given, just over six months ago. The total includes both first and second doses delivered to individuals at either mass vaccination clinics, pharmacies, primary care offices or pop-up community clinics. Over 100,000 of these doses were administered since June 21, when the region’s Vaccine Olympics first began. New vaccine coverage data by age groups will be released tomorrow.

Health Unit Issues Two-Day Heat Alert

The current Environment Canada forecast is calling for high temperatures of 31º Celsius on Sunday and 33º Celsius on Monday, meeting the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for issuing a two-day Heat Alert. While there will be a slight reprieve overnight on Sunday as temperatures drop down to 18º Celsius, the two-day heat alert will remain in effect until Tuesday, July 6th, when a mix of sun and cloud will bring the temperature down just slightly below the Health Unit’s threshold. Vigilance on Tuesday is still recommended, as temperatures will remain high, despite being below the Health Unit’s threshold.

Health Unit Declares Outbreak After Six Covid-19 Cases Linked to Indoor Church Gatherings

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak after six people who attended indoor gatherings have tested positive for the virus. Health Unit investigators have been able to associate these cases to a series of indoor gatherings held between June 20th and June 30th, where no masks were worn and physical distancing was not maintained. Investigators are continuing the work of determining the number of close contacts associated with those who have tested positive. Anyone who attended an indoor gathering of any kind, including church services or other gatherings, at Christ Embassy Church, located at 1472 Dundas Street in London, between June 20th and June 30th is being asked to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested if symptoms develop.
