Walk-Ins Now Welcome at All Health Unit Vaccination Clinics

Posted by on

As part of the effort to reduce barriers and increase opportunities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) announced today that walk-ins are now available at all its vaccination clinics. Starting today, those eligible to receive a dose of vaccine can visit the Western Fair District Agriplex, Caradoc Community Centre, Earl Nichols Arena, or any Community Hub COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic, without booking in advance. While walk-ins are now welcome, pre-scheduled vaccination appointments can still be booked in advance at www.covidvaccinelm.ca.

Although walk-ins are now available, there are still eligibility requirements for who can receive which dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals five years of age and older are eligible to receive their first and second doses at a recommended interval of eight weeks between doses. Those 18 and older are also eligible for a booster dose at a minimum interval of 3 months after their second dose.

“More than 83% of London and Middlesex County residents over the age of 5 have received at least two doses of vaccine, but we know there are others who aren’t yet fully protected. So we’re doing our best to make it easy for those folks to get their vaccine as soon as they are eligible, whether it’s a first, second, or booster dose,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “One of our key goals is to have more parents make the choice to have their youngsters under the age of 12 get vaccinated; it simply is the best way to protect anyone from COVID-19.”

While 96.5% of London and Middlesex County teenagers 12 to 17 years old have received a first dose of vaccine, just 56.1% of those between the ages of five and 12 have been given a single dose so far.

The Health Unit has also indicated that it will have a supply of both the Pfizer-BioNTech Cormirnaty and Moderna Spikevax vaccines available at all of its clinics, including the new Community Hub COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics, the first of which gets underway this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Wilfrid Jury Public School.
