Safe Kids Week

Posted by on

Did you know? June 7-14 is Parachute Canada’s Safe Kids Week, which is an annual public awareness campaign about preventable childhood injuries. The 2014 Safe Kids week theme is Safe Swimming, Safe Splashing, Safe Kids, which highlights the importance of water safety and drowning prevention.

As children spend more time outside playing, swimming and enjoying warmer temperatures, it’s important for parents and caregivers to identify and prevent potential risks around water.

Water Safety

Did you know? Drowning is the second leading cause of death for Canadian children. Water safety is important, especially during the summer months.

Water Safety Tips

  • Always supervise young children when in or around water
  • Always stay with arm’s reach and sight of your children at all times
  • Make sure young children and weak swimmers wear a lifejacket or PFD (Personal Flotation Device)
  • Install a 4 sided pool fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate around your home pool
  • Enroll your children in swimming lessons
  • Be prepared. Get trained in water skills, swimming skills, CPR and first aid
