In an effort to reduce operating costs while maintaining service provision to the community, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will close its main office located in the Shops on Sydenham, Strathroy as of October 31, 2025. The dental clinic, located within the same retail mall, will remain open.
“The current physical space is under-utilized by both staff and clients,” says Dr. Alex Summers, the public health unit’s medical officer of health, “but the services we provide there are important to residents. Following an evaluation, we’ve decided to close the physical space and instead offer the current services differently with a minimum of disruption to the community.”
Minor reconfigurations of the Dental Clinic will allow it to host monthly vaccine and sexual health clinics. Mobile clinics will also be explored. Residents who drop off well water samples will be instructed to take them to the Dental Clinic. New signage will make it clear what services are offered, when and where.
“Most clients will be seen in the same building, by the same caring professional staff,” adds Summers. “Our commitment is to maintain service levels in Middlesex County by providing them differently – rather than losing them. We will closely monitor the success of this arrangement and adjust our service delivery model as required.”
The local public health unit’s website and its social media pages will be used to communicate the transition as it is happening.
