New Website Provides a Wealth of Local Health Statistics and Data

Posted by on

London, ON – Reliable local statistics about a variety of public health-related topics are now only a few clicks away. The Middlesex-London Health Unit launched an important new website today that will help health care professionals, community planners, social service organizations, researchers and others who are seeking local health information to support their work. The statistical data contained on the website’s pages can be updated as required in the future.

Called Middlesex-London’s Community Health Status Resource, the new website (http://communityhealthstats.healthunit.com) supports an important part of the Health Unit’s mandate by providing insights into the community’s state of health, which influences the planning and evaluation of public health programs and services.

Among the many topics covered on the website are:

  • Demographics;
  • Social Determinants of Health;
  • Deaths;
  • Hospitalizations;
  • Child and Youth Health;
  • Reproductive Health;
  • Injuries;
  • Chronic Diseases;
  • Lifestyle Behaviours;
  • Communicable Diseases and Immunization; and
  • Environmental Health.

“With our new website, this information is accessible to anyone in London and Middlesex County at any time and from anywhere, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” says Dr. Bryna Warshawsky, Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “In the past, the Health Unit has published Community Health Status Reports, but by making the information available online, our partners are able to access this information more easily.”

The resource contains information on disease rates and trends over time as well as comparisons between Middlesex-London and other parts of Ontario. The website also contains information about the influences that affect the health of the community including lifestyle issues and education, as well as social, economic and other factors. Maps that compare these factors between neighbourhoods are also included on the site.
