Health Unit Reopening COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Westmount Shopping Centre this Week

Posted by on

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is set to re-open its COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Westmount Shopping Centre this Thursday, October 6th. The location had previously been open in July, during which time staff delivered more than 1,600 doses of vaccine over a dozen scheduled clinics. The decision to re-open the clinic at Westmount was made to provide additional vaccination capacity for the MLHU and more opportunity for residents to receive the COVID-19 booster doses they are eligible for.

Provincially, the COVID-19 vaccination strategy is moving away from referring to booster doses by a number, in favour of a strategy where doses of vaccine are delivered at six-month intervals to provide optimal protection against the virus. While the recommended interval for a booster dose is six months after completing a primary series of vaccine (initial two doses) or the most recent booster dose, it may also be given as early as three months after receiving a prior dose of vaccine.

In addition, individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are asked to wait three months after their infection before receiving a booster dose of vaccine.

“With colder weather in store for the coming months, we expect people to be spending more time indoors, in closer proximity to others than they may have been in quite a while,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Medical Officer of Health, at the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “We know COVID-19 is here to stay, and that it continues to circulate, so being up to date with your booster doses is the best way to avoid becoming ill from the virus this fall.”

As it did in July, the Heath Unit’s Westmount Shopping Centre vaccination clinic will operate out of a space beside the Bulk Barrel located near the mall’s Entrance 1, off Viscount Road. The clinic will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Clients will be seen on a walk-in basis; individuals can receive any dose that they are currently eligible for.
