Health Unit to Increase COVID-19 Vaccination Capacity in The New Year

Posted by on

As London and Middlesex County residents 50 years of age and older begin booking their booster dose appointments, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is announcing it will add COVID-19 vaccination clinic capacity early in the new year. The added clinic capacity will be crucial as the Health Unit prepares for the expanded booster and third dose vaccination eligibility that comes into effect in early 2022. The Province announced last Friday that all Ontarians over the age of 18 will be eligible to receive a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine starting January 4th.

To meet the expected demand, the Health Unit will be increasing the number of days its COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Caradoc Community Centre will be operating. Effective January 4th, the long-time clinic location in Mount Brydges will provide doses of COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Two days later, the Health Unit will also be re-opening a vaccination clinic at the Earl Nichols Recreation Centre. The facility, which operated as a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from May 25th to September 3rd, will begin offering vaccines once again, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Demand for the COVID-19 vaccine remains high, so with the expanded booster dose eligibility the Province announced late last week and with children under the age of 12 soon being able to receive their second dose, the need for more clinic capacity was clear,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Acting Medical Officer of Health at the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “Our primary goal is doing all we can to ensure the population of London and Middlesex County has the best possible protection against COVID-19 and the emerging Omicron variant.”

Individuals over the age of 18 will be able to begin booking booster dose vaccination appointments starting on January 4, 2022.
