Health Unit Announces 90% of Local Residents Aged 12 and Up Have Received the COVID-19 Vaccine

Posted by on

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) announced today that 90 percent of the region’s population born in 2009 or earlier has now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. In just under one year, a total of 809,166 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in London and Middlesex County; as of the end of Saturday, November 20th, 87.2 percent of the population had received two doses of the vaccine. The 90% achievement is included in the vaccination coverage update that is part of today’s COVID-19 dashboard on the MLHU website.

This milestone is the result of the close collaboration between the partners and agencies across the region which have supported the vaccination effort through organized clinics and the administration of COVID-19 vaccinations to First Nations communities, long-term care and retirement home residents and staff, primary care patients and those who are unable to leave their homes. The partnership that has allowed London and Middlesex County to reach this target includes the London Health Sciences Centre, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, the City of London, the County of Middlesex, the Thames Valley Family Health Team, primary care physicians and pharmacies across the region.

“Reaching this milestone is an achievement worth celebrating and one the whole community can share in. It is truly an amazing accomplishment,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “With the opening of vaccination appointment bookings today for children between the ages of five and 11, we hope to see the vaccination coverage in the community continue to grow, as we all do our part to keep our families and our most vulnerable citizens safe this winter.”

In celebration of reaching the 90% vaccinated milestone, the Health Unit and its partners have collaborated on a video that thanks the community for rolling up its sleeves and getting vaccinated. Follow this link to watch the video: https://youtu.be/KW4JS5CVn6c
