Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) - Information for Healthcare Providers

The Baby-Friendly Initiative ensures a high standard of care for ALL women and families related to infant feeding. The Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) is a globally recognized, evidence-based strategy shown to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates by promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding.1 The initiative includes the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.2

Currently, healthcare organizations are encouraged to implement the Baby-Friendly Initiative. By adopting these clinical best practices in infant feeding, families will be better supported to make informed feeding decisions and to meet their breastfeeding goals.3
