Health Unit and Pride London Partner to Host COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic This Sunday

Posted by on

To increase opportunities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and to support uptake within the LGBT2Q+ community, the Middlesex-London Health Unit and Pride London have partnered to offer a Walk-in Pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Sunday, August 22nd from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Palasad Social Bowl. While the focus will be on administering vaccine, the afternoon will also feature music, food, and entertainment, all in adherence with public health guidelines.

This community vaccination clinic is part of the Health Unit’s effort to engage groups within the community and reduce barriers, all with the goal of increasing vaccine uptake and ensuring as many people as possible are protected against COVID-19. Palasad Social Bowl is located at 777 Adelaide Street in London, at the corner of Oxford Street and is readily accessible by public transit. The clinic is intended for members of the LGBT2Q+ community.

“Pride London Festival has sought to engage, embrace and support our community throughout the year with educational and entertaining events, programs and fundraisers, including this unique Pop-Up Clinic. As our community may have some direct questions relating to the vaccine, and face different barriers, we wanted to ensure we provided a safe space to answer those questions while providing access to the vaccine and entertainment on Sunday,” says Stephen D’Amelio, President of Pride London Festival.

“By engaging partners like Pride London in our clinic planning, we hope to provide communities with a more positive experience in a welcoming environment that considers and recognizes their values,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “We look forward to a great clinic on Sunday and encourage anyone who would like to receive their first or second dose of vaccine to stop by.”

No appointments are required for the Walk-in Pop-up Vaccination Clinics; a valid form of identification is all that’s needed. First doses will be provided to anyone who has yet to start their COVID-19 vaccine series and second doses will be administered to those who received their initial shot at least 28 days ago. Both Moderna and Pfizer vaccine will be available.
