In the past two weeks the Health Unit has received reports of two people with hepatitis A who have no connections and no travel history. We are investigating to determine a potential source of these cases and offering hepatitis A vaccine to contacts. Please be on the alert for people presenting with symptoms that are compatible with hepatitis A (fever, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, and/or malaise followed in a few days by jaundice). 

If you suspect hepatitis A, please order an IgM for hepatitis A STAT and contact the Health Unit. Please do not wait to receive the laboratory results to contact the Health Unit. We can be reached at 519-663-5317 ext. 2330.
