Due to a shortage of Quadracel (DTaP- IPV), we will be distributing a new product called Adacel-IPV (Tdap-IPV) to be used for the 4 to 6 year booster dose. This product contains the same antigens as Quadracel but there is a lower amounts of pertussis and diphtheria in Adacel-IPV compared to Quadracel. The lower concentrations of pertussis and diphtheria will result in less local reactions at the 4 to 6 year booster than if Quadracel was used. There will be a very limited supply of Quadracel available for children receiving a primary series (first three doses) between the ages of 5 and 6 years.
To summarize:
- Adacel—IPV (Tdap-IPV) is the product that should be ordered for the 4 to 6 year booster dose. This product can also be used if a primary series is being given to children or adolescents aged 7 to 17 years inclusive.
- Adacel or Boostrix (Tdap) is the product recommended for the routine adolescent booster (usually given between 14 and 16 years of age).
- Quadracel (DTaP-IPV) is the product recommended for children receiving a primary series between the ages of 5 and 6 years. This product is in short supply.
Attached please find some information sheets with more details from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, as well as a revised order form which contains Adacel-IPV as an option.
