Core to good decision-making is good data. Health system decision making is now aided by the availability of up-to-date population health data.
London, ON – Central to the work of local public health is the agency’s ability to gather, analyze and act upon health data – recognizing when there are health risks and putting in measures to prevent harm and improve the health of individuals and communities.
“At our community’s local public health agency, we gather and assess health data so that we can see the worrisome trends that we need to respond to,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
“By launching Community Health Snapshots, we’re making that same data available to the entire community – residents, health care professionals, service providers, municipalities, elected officials – everyone who needs accurate, accessible data for decision-making.”
Community Health Snapshots bring together local data on topics including population health, infectious diseases, chronic disease, mental health, substance use, and more. The resources are designed to help people better understand local health trends and use evidence to support planning, programming, advocacy and research. The information includes interactive dashboards, downloadable data tables and infographic overviews.
“Good local data helps us understand the health of our community and identify where action can make the greatest difference,” says Summers. “We want these resources to be useful to everyone working every day to improve health and well-being across Middlesex-London.”
