Extreme Temperatures

Extreme temperatures can cause heat related illnesses (such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and heat cramps), or cold related illnesses (such as hypothermia and frostbite).

Heat Alerts and Cold Alerts

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has a protocol to alert the general public, local agencies, stakeholders, and the media, in a coordinated manner, of the forecast of extreme weather events.

This is to ensure that everyone, with special consideration for people experiencing homeless and those most vulnerable, is provided with recommendations to prepare appropriately for the effects of extreme temperatures.
