PHRED Program
Launched in September 1991, Middlesex-London Health Unit's PHRED Program is one of five such units in the province of Ontario. Other programs are located in Hamilton, Kingston, Ottawa and Sudbury. The provincial government and local municipalities provide funding for this program.
Middlesex-London's PHRED Program is a partnership involving Middlesex-London Health Unit, The University of Western Ontario, and Brescia College.
Program staff conduct practical public health research to provide front line staff and program managers with needed information to deliver effective, efficient and innovative programs and services.
The second core activity is the education of health science students. Practitioners throughout the health unit provide learning experiences for future health professionals. In addition, PHRED Program staff assist health science faculties in revising curricula to emphasize key public health concepts such as social determinants of health, health promotion and population-based approaches.
The Program works on both local and provincial initiatives.
